1st Place Finish for Abbate in GT-1
Michele Abbate becomes first driver to take 1st place in a Toyota 86 in GT-1
The GRRRacing team hit Buttonwillow for the 5th round of the SCCA Cal Club Championship events. It was blistering hot out for the entire weekend, but the team was working towards making some improvements to the cooling system of the GRR Racing Edelbrock E-Force powered Toyota 86.
With immediate help from Delicious Tuning, all efforts were made to make the best out of the weekend. Abbate qualified on pole for Saturday’s race, but fell short of the 1st place finish due to issues with the fuel system. “We are proud of our 2nd place finish, but it is frustrating to be chasing these gremlins”, Crew Cheif Anthony Philleo explains.

Triple digit weather wasn’t a surpise all day Sunday. Points played a significant role in the efforts for the weekend and Abbate drove a smart race to kept the car happy, ultimately finishing in the top spot. “This year has been a grueling one for use, but I am happy to be learning more about the car as we do everything we can to dial it in”, Michele shares.
